What’s Your First Yes? | Design Grove

Your audience wants a next step. “Book a call” is too big. “Follow me” is too small.

What’s Your First Yes? is a two-minute quiz for speakers, coaches, consultants, and course creators. It tells you the free or low-cost offer that fits in between, and what it needs to work.

Find My First Yes

Nine questions. About two minutes. Your result and a build guide at the end.

Sound familiar?

  • “I end every talk with ‘connect with me on LinkedIn.’”
  • “I tell people to book a call. Almost nobody books a call.”
  • “I’ll just throw together a handout.”
  • “I made a workbook. It’s been sitting in a folder since last spring.”

Here’s what that costs you.

Not in a dramatic way. In a quiet, every-single-time way.

  • The room forgets you by Monday. They meant to look you up. Then the next session started, and the inbox filled up.
  • The people ready to buy can’t find the door. The ones who would pay for your program never got to the $20 step, so they never got close enough to ask.
  • You default to a handout. It’s the easiest thing to make, so it’s what everyone makes. Nobody downloads it, and you decide your audience doesn’t want free things.

They do. They just didn’t want that one.

There’s a step missing in the middle.

Most experts only offer the two ends. Your first yes goes in between.

  1. Too small “Follow me on LinkedIn.”

Easy to say yes to. Easy to forget by Tuesday. You never hear from them again.

  2. Your first yes The right-sized ask for the people in front of you.

Not the format everyone else defaults to. The one that fits how well your audience knows you and what they’re ready for right now. That’s the part the quiz figures out.

  3. Too big “Book a call with me.”

The right ask for a few people. Too much, too soon, for everyone else in the room.

The middle is where people get to know how you think before they decide to hire you.

Four possible results. Which one is yours?

Nine questions about your audience, how you teach, and what you already have. Each result comes with its own guide and a plan you can start this week.

  • The Mirror

  • The Field Kit

  • The First Lesson

  • The Front Row Seat

  • Your result, right awayOn screen and in your inbox, with what fits and why.
  • A seven-page guideWhat your first yes needs, a five-step build plan, and tips for where people meet you.
  • A one-page plannerThe whole project on a page, plus one move to make this week.

Before you start

My audience is small. Is this still for me?

Yes. A first yes matters more with a small audience, because every person who leaves without one is a bigger share of the room.

I don’t want to sound salesy.

That’s the point of the middle step. It gives people something useful before anyone asks them to buy anything.

Is there a sales call at the end?

No. You get your result, your guide, and a few short emails with ideas you can use. Unsubscribe whenever you like.

Can’t I just make a handout?

Maybe. For some audiences a handout is exactly right. For others it gets saved and forgotten, and a quiz or a short course would do far more. The quiz tells you which one fits yours.

I already have a freebie.

Then the quiz will tell you if it’s the right kind for your audience. If it isn’t getting used, that’s usually why.
